Ashish Ghosh
“I have been building figures and toys with clay and wood since childhood. Growing up, watching the idol-making of rural Bengal’s gods and goddesses created the urge of playing around with mud and clay. The raw feelings of a
young child observing the ever-changing forms of clouds, mountains, streams,
lotus and water lily blooms in ponds, and the dominance of nature where I
grew up fermented and compelled me to express them, eventually in the form
of sculptures.
In the long run, art education fueled me with the power of creative expression.
Gradually I’ve come to understand that observing nature is my true inspiration.”

Tagore’s values and the organic, nurturing environment
of Santiniketan has been an extra-ordinary factor behind the studio and artists like Ghosh, and now he is more involved in fueling the thoughts of young minds, and all those uninitiated with the world he represents.
Ashish Ghosh has a diploma in wood-work from Visva-Bharati University, Santiniketan, a B.F.A. (Hons. in Sculpture) from Kala Bhavana, and an M.F.A. in sculpture from there. He is presently an assistant professor at Visva-Bharati.
